A colorful Album of Unites States’ History

on Nov 01, 2012

After having a look at France and Serbia and while waiting for some more finalists from Asian countries, I jump over again to the American continent to have a look at the US finalists. For a European person, the winner images present a diverse view on very „American“ motifs. From National Parks to technical achievements, from typical 20th centuries diner restaurants to the Lincoln memorial: that’s “America“ as one seems to know it …

As a first-time-organizer of Wiki Loves Monuments, the US reached a respectable 5th place in the statistics, if we look only at the number of uploads (~ 22,100). Interesting enough, the US was “beaten“ only by India with the number of participants (~ 2014). Compared to other countries, we see a noticeable larger number of participants, but with less uploads per person. It will be interesting to analyze that 😉 However, one more interesting number before you may have a look at the images: according to the organizer, ~ 5000 sites can be illustrated with WLM images that were not previously photographed in Wikipedia. Congratulations!

But now something completely different: the finalist images!
